It gives a small amount of gain on the higher bands but for optimum performance with solid state rigs you must use an ATU. Most transceiver internal ATUs will match these antennas but for optimum performance we recommend an external tuner such as those from MFJ. A pair of inductors (EL-40XC) are available in a kit to add 80m to a half size G5RV with only a small increase in overall length of the antenna.
